Unless you run into an escort that was already actively pinging away already. If you want to test something, push the limits to see what effect changes make. For instance, on a type VIIC, change the submerged Max Speed to 50.0 and take the boat out on a single mission - a test drive of sort. See how she handles at each of the speeds. Gang from ahead Standard to Reverse Emergency and see how long it takes you to slow down. (Changing Max Speed doesn't change the drag coefficient and you will coast much farther now.) Then abort the mission and lower the submerged RPM to 90. Play the same mission again but be more aggressive around the escorts. Find out if they can spot you at Ahead Standard.
