It sounds crazy but I hope i'm not the only person who would want Silent Hunter 5 to have playable escorts and other surface vessels in expansions. It just feels disappointing to limit the game to *just* submarines when their is so much else to naval warfare.
And sorry, but no matter how you look at it, naval sims are almost totally dominated by submarines. So you'll have to understand why i'm getting a little tired of running away from all of the depth charges...when I could be the one dropping them. |

A lot of people agree with you that a new Destroyer Command is in order, and it should be interactive with submarines. Then with other destroyers. Then with big ships.
But it wouldn't be Silent Hunter anymore.

Here's my perspective. As an accomplished sailor but a very casual naval simmer i'm a little intimidated about the learning curve when it comes to a surface warfare sim. I know next to nothing about big naval engagements be it strategically, tactically, or on the unit level. Part of the attraction to a wwii era sub sim was the lack of group level tactics and the relative lack of technology (i'm still figuring out how to work all the gizmo's in Falcon 4.0) to learn to use. I'm afraid i represent a pretty good picture of the average genre consumer. |
