The hazards of BIOS flashing As described earlier, the BIOS is a crucial component of your computer since it is always the first program that runs when you turn the machine on. If the BIOS does not run, the machine cannot boot. Therefore it is very important that a BIOS upgrade is performed properly. If it fails, it can permanently ruin the BIOS, resulting in your computer becoming a door stop. Common reasons for BIOS flashes gone bad are power failure during the flashing process, and flashing the BIOS with an incorrect BIOS version.

This is the part you want to read carefully.

Because of these dangers you do not flash a BIOS just for ****s and giggles, but only if there is a very good reason.

Reminds me of the old days when you had to insert the boot disc to start your computer.

Any thoughts on this. Oh btw the reason for this is I upgraded cpu, 2 gigs of ram and vid card.

:rotfl: been there done that for sure. 5 1/4 (was it 1/4?) inch floppy discs. Remember those? I had to use a 3 1/2 (1/2?) floppy the other day to pull something off an old laptop, had a hard time remembering which way to put it in and that it read as A drive.

I've still got some in the loft off one of my earlier rigs. A real racer it was in it's day....a Pentium 333Mhz 16MB memoty and a 1.5GB HD.

You could use them now for beer mats :rotfl:

All the time spent (wasted?) trying to tweak autoexec.bat and config.sys and clear out a few more available bytes in the first 640K. What a pain!
