Yeah, what Dowly said.

The loading times are directly related to the amount of campaign scripting & vessels etc that needs to be loaded when the game starts.

The 'Graphics', as you call them, are actually better optimised than Stock Sh3 ever was. So removing the 'Graphics' is not going to help you.

Here's why GWX takes longer to load:

Stock 1.4b:
Air Units = 13
Sea Units = 49
U-Boats+Subs = 8
SCR Campaign = 19249 lines
RND Campaign = 402082 lines
LND Campaign = 11968 lines
Total = 433299

GWX 2.0:
Air Units = 40
Sea Units = 182
U-Boats+Subs = 24
SCR Campaign = 486859 lines
RND Campaign = 629050 lines
LND Campaign = 53925 lines
Total = 1169834 :rotfl:

Thats a 169.98% increase in campaign scripting alone. Don't forget, when you click START, all the items above are loaded each & every time into your PC's memory.

Just think what you'll be mnissing.

What is so slow about it?

Is it the load times or is it once you are ingame?

You can't do much about the load times, except using individual campaign files for the different areas of operation. This is a world encompassing simulation, it takes time to load the data, we didn't build an arcade shooter.

If it's the performance in & around your home port, you can enable the Light Habour Traffic Mod which removes all port traffic, except your port escort. This will greatly help your performance in port.

Also, do not use the 16km Atmosphere mod, this doubles your visual/sensor & game range but also doubles your memory drain/footprint on low end systems.

Honestly, with these options used, GWX is no more taxing for your system than Stock SH3 was. GWX was designed that way. You only need the original Recommended Specs to play it.

What are your specs btw?

Morning all

Just follow your deepest instinct Suliman... No need to persuade you that GWX is definitely worth its loading time so make it your way and make your own choice

You are kinda answering your own problem. IMO you need at least 2-gigs of memory for this game.

More ram! 2gigs is more than enough.

Since your don't have enough ram here are some ways you can help yourself gain some.

Remember diconnect your internet or network!

Disable any Antivirus program.

Diable any non essential programs in the taskbar... Trial and error works.

Heres an example. Explorer take some juicy memory. Don't worry when the screen goes blank. Thats normal.
There are post on the net that shows you exactly what you can remove and what you shouldn't touch.

Once you have clean some of your backround programs.. In the taskbar in the menu FILE look to NEW TASK (RUN) and find your install EXE game location then run it.

This will help you abit till you can buy some ram.

In Virtual memory try to adjust the paging file size. I have mine at 3067 custom. Do some trial and error to find your sweet spot.

I hope this helps.

Don't worry if you crashed your system or freeze it just Reboot your computer. All these taskbar programs will be reloaded. Just remember which program you tried to remove before all hell broke loose.

Hi! I have played SH3+GWX2 on my laptop for months. When i upgraded RAM memory from 1024 to 2048, i saw an impressive improvment of game loading time and in-play responsiveness.

bye!

1. Are you talking about me? I wasnt really offended, but i did think it was sort of not a joke, people feel somewhat strongly about realism here

2. Yeah i recon my ram is way to low, i will get new eventually. I do puzzle me though, how the loading can be so slow. What kind of high-level scripting are they using? GWX loads less then 250 units according to these figures, which is nothing. I did some testing with a game im doing in c++ using directx 9.0c. I can load, position, rotate, set lightning and texture 250 fairly complex vehicles in less then 9 seconds! So where the 6 min goes is beyond me. Do you realise how many models GTA san andreas loads, and that takes less then 20sec on my computer.

3. The upload for minitweaker, sh3 inspector and sh3 file analyzer has all gone sour. Where can i find them? Thanks.

4. Man, you guys sure love to chat. I guess this thread has been officially hijacked!

You need a new comp mate ! (where have I read this before ???:hmm

Guess everyone who is sticking to beefed up SH 3 has gotten used to the loading times.

My benchmark

I for myself don't mind them, gives me time AFC.

I guess, by reading these posts, I'm one of the lucky ones .

Waiting time is about 4.30 minutes and lowest framerate of 16 fps.

Fujitsu Siemens Amilo 1526 laptop
Intel Core Duo 1.66 GHz
RAM 2046 MB
32 BIT
Nvdia Geforce 7600 Go with 256 mb ram

OS
Windows Vista home premium (windows 2000 look) to max out performance.

SH 3
GWX 2.0
GWX no medals on crew
Longer Wakes v1.0 for GWX
Modded OCL Gui 123 for realistic navigation
OLC 16 KM Atmos GWX 2.0 Alpha
Improved wave textures

Aah, where are the days of SH2 .... running frontflotille mod. But then again, loading times on that rig were also long...

ah well. enjoy the game and don't worry about it. Gives you time to decode that Enigma message, keep the 'kriegstagebuch' up to date or write a letter to the girlfriend.

Dont do it, kameard! If u decline GWX u decline opportunity of becoming of the part of historical reconstruction of Battle for Atlantic. I got long time of loading which i can shorten with Lite Harbour Mod from GWX, but i did not do it coz I sacrifice speed of loading to the immersion.
