Default Thx to Nisgeis USS Torsk 423 sails again

Nisgeis apparently used the photos I provided and was able to create this photo realistic skin. Even down to the dent she sports on the bow. We have a new modder here fellas IT ROCKS! Now some paint on the sail or maybe she looks cool just like this!

Shouldn't the bridge be light gray like the sides of the hull? A black superstructure would be easy to spot on the horizon.

Other than that, I really like the skin and the realistic metal look.

Work in progress! Nesgies put in over 10 hours on this alone. I PM'd him on getting the sail gray as well and the dive plans as they look a bit blue.

As a side note, he did use the photo and was able to get the photo realisitic look. Look closely at the bow and see the weld lines. Also the dent she has in the bow. See the indentation on the metal skin from pressure of the water and normal wear. Very cool way to make as skin really. If Nesgies is up to it, perhaps some other colored photos of subs could be used.

I think once he has the basic skin without the painted mouth he could probably start replicating it to other boats.

I woud like to download it just as a generic skin without anything extra added to the bow or bridge. I definitely noticed the weld lines and dents.

Wow, that is a beauty. Great job on the lighting and metal textures. Can we get this guy to redo the S-Class, P-Class and so forth?

I imagine he could do a hell of a job on the early Measure #9 boats! Particulary the Sugar boats.

Yes and he did a great job. Check this out....see the weld lines and dent? Now look at his photo realistic creation off this pic:

It is dead on and includes the draft numbers on the side. Very cool way to skin a boat. Compare the two, real pic here and creation on first post!

Hello everyone thanks for the comments, I will be working on this some more, once I have finished working out which bits of the texture are mapped to which part of the model. There is probably a really easy way to do this, but I'm doing it the way I know how, so it will take me a while, almost done though. After that I'll see about a conning tower. The drainage holes in the side are not right and I will fix this eventually. I wanted to get the hull to AVGWarhawk fairly quickly, so I did not have time to change all the particle generators for the Balao, so I added the stock Balao skin's drainage holes so it would look right in the interim.

I have first to work on a skin for the Balao class boats by the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Compnay in Wisconsin for a project I am working on. After I have done that I will return to this.

Hello Gimpy, I haven't used photoshop for years (although it was extrememly powerful even back then), coincidentally enough, I downloaded a copy of GIMP, as it's free and then worked out how to use it whilst doing this skin. Yesterday, I figured out how to use layers - hurrah!

I have absolutely no artistic ability at all, but I'm OK with editting software.
