Default Modding the pre-drawn Nav plots

Hey, it dawned on me that the GWX guys modded one of those pre-drawn nav plots (an otherwise useless feature) for use on the Kiel canal.

Two Questions:

1) How do you modify those waypoints?

2) Can you modify the waypoints while the game is running and have the game recognize it? ...or do they all just pre-load once on startup?

I was thinking it would be really cool if I could have MoBo send my intercept and end-around plots to one of those in-game nav plot buttons. If item 2 above isn't possible, I guess there's no point in going into detail on item 1.

You can try task switching out of the game and changeing the files,
then switch back to the game and hit the button.
Worst that can happen is CTD.

Do it in a test mission so you don't whack your Career.

I could... if I knew what files to change and how to change em.

Maybe someone who already knows how to mod the file could do a test for me to see if swapping out files at runtime is allowable. If it is, then I'll have a way to link MoBo output to the game!

They're in the SilentHunterIII\data\Menu\Patterns folder.
They are edited or created with Mission Editor.

Notepad will open them.
Just a text file actually.

Really? Excellent...

I'm working on trying to get my main PC back after an HD crash, so I'm typing this on my daughter's laptop. I don't have SH3 installed at the moment; could someone check to see if you can change one of those textfiles at runtime?
