ice on the ground here in southern IL for the past few weeks.
Makes for plenty of patrol time though! |

I drive about 15,000 miles a month OTR all over the US and I'll tell ya boys, it's been pretty nasty in spots all winter.
[TRUCKER STORY MODE ON] A few weeks back, was driving on UT-191 up though Moab, about 30 miles south of I-70. My rig was about 78,000 GVW, heavy, which is good on bad roads. I'd already creeped across I-70 from I-15 south of SLC on a mostly unplowed interstate all the previous night, whiteouts and such the whole way... Anyway I turn south on UT-191, doing about 25mph when the whole truck just starts sliding to the right, towards the shoulder. Except their ain't no shoulder on that stretch of road, just a nice big ditch for water run off. No salt or cinders on the roadway at all. Sphincter Pucker Factor: 10+ The road has a slight "crown" to it, and was so icy, there was hardly any friction. I was able to correct the slide and creeped at about 10mph for awhile until the road got better... [TRUCKER STORY MODE OFF]
