Ugh!

Never had trouble with TC but if i did i'd transfer to Willemshaven. Although you couldn't run a iid from there (my favorite boat).

I'm having trouble with it, because the watch officer keeps calling out ships over and over and every time he does it I'm back at 1x. The highest I've gotten is x8 and then there he goes again!

I sympathize. When I go through the canal, I keep my finger on the "+" button in the keypad, and I just keep hitting it. That keeps the TC high enough that I get through in a reasonable time period, but it can still take up to 20 minutes or so.

What if you removed the watch officer from his postion? Would he still call out ships? If not then you could use SH3Commander to set the allowed time compression higher.

Thendash hit it on the head. I remove my watch officer and rest him up so there isn't anyone calling every tub you pass in the canal.

You think I didn't try that? It still drops back every few seconds.

As for the locks: I don't know how long it took to operate each one, but I drop to one knot while traversing them. It's probably still far too fast, but it makes me feel better.

Sounds like a damn good compromise to me. Sometimes we are stuck with choosing to play realistically in the face of elements that are absent from the sim.

Use SH3 Commander, change TC for near land from 4 to whatever you prefer, change ship spot from 1 or 8 to whatever you prefer, or go around Denmark. I been thru that canal, once was enough after hit a bridge or moored ships/wrecks. That canal is good for players who want 100% real time realism, not using TC at all. If you don't use SH3 Commander, u can still change TC settings in Main.cfg in CFG folder under SH3 or Main.cfg in your personal patrol/career folder under My Document.

I used the Kiel Canal a few times. But then went back to rounding Jutland. Besides, how realistic is it without accounting for the time spent in the locks?

I use SH3Cmdr and set TC to 32 for near land. Curiously the diagonals aren't considered near on the way in.

Hmmm.:hmm: Surely it wouldn't take more than say... four hours realtime per lock though would it?

To all: The "TC near land" settings in GWX 2.0 are set to 128xTC. Once you get sufficient distance from the various units that your crew repeatedly spots... dropping your TC... it shouldn't take more than an hour of game-time to get through the canal.

"Two days in RL" to get through the canal is a rather large exaggeration IMHO. Two days in GAME time... maybe.
