Default a type of fish malfunction i have read of but never experienced until now

ive been reading the book 'Submarine an anthology of first hand accounts of the war under sea 1939-1945', and noticed an account of a torpedo that malfunctioned and simply went in circles, if i remember correctly it actually hit the submarine that fired it.

i was practising manual TDC on the torp training mission and i had the same malfunction, the fish simply went in circles. this was quite annoying as id already sent 2 successful fish into my target and this third would have finished it off.

i was wondering if this has ever happened to any of you guys. i hope this wasnt a game bug and was a intentional torp malfunction.

my mods are:

trigger maru (latest version)
trigger maru GFX ROW (latest version)
trigger maru Sound (latest version)

ROW addon (pacific version)
NSM classic (latest version)

Yep, happened to me also. I made a bow shot on a ship that was a mere 200 yards away. I said what the hell it's worth a shot. Well, it went in circles instead.

I've had a few do this, too, but it's rare. It's a historic defect programmed into the sim. I always switch to external view to make sure that the torpedoes are running on their correct course. Otherwise, they'll come back to bite you.

The Tang, commanded by Richard O'Kane, was sunk in the Formosa Strait by its own flawed torpedo (running in a circle) during a surface night attack on October 24– October 25, 1944, in which he lost all but eight of his crew. O'Kane, and the other survivors, were captured by the Japanese.

As for SH4, here is my own torpedo which circled back:

The result:
