I have to say 18 students shot dead sounds like a pretty darn good reason not to leave England.

I just find it extraordinary that your solution to spree killings is more guns so students can have some sort of wild west shoot out!

I'm sick of this crap already. There is something mentally wrong with people in our country and it is getting worse. My mother works in an elementary school with children who have severe behavior problems. You can pretty much tell who has major problems and who is the sociopath but there isn't anything that can be done about it because of political correctness and diversity. The problem gets identified but nobody does anything to nip it in the bud. Many of these kids have lousy parents and the parents were probably were addicted to drugs when carrying the kid. In any event this stuff is really getting out of control with the shootings. I am glad I am finished with college at this point and I am quite glad that many of the criminal justice professors at my university carried concealed much to the horror of many of the more liberal professors.

It is getting to the point where I feel I need to carry a gun with me everywhere I go regardless of whether or not that sign says no guns permitted because that sign isn't going to save my life if some madman runs into the mall or some store and starts firing. I hate to get all biblical but I am pretty sure there is some reference to this type of insanity increasing in frequency toward the end of times. I'm not a super religious person but sometimes the accurancy of those writings can be scary.

One Biblical reference kind of along those lines is *Men's hearts failing them for fear* (Revelations somewhere). Doesn't exactly corelate to school shooting but it sure fits the Fear that seems to be pervasive anymore: Fear that is the product of real events, perceived threats and something intangilble that just seems to be hanging in the air like fog.

I won't disagree with anyone's post in this thread (at least so far :hmm because everything that's been stated is correct from a certain perspective. The reality is, these school shootings (and violent crime in general) are becoming more & more common place. And it Sucks.

Legislating this kind of thing away ain't gonna happen. It'll take a cultural shift to do it. Probably not something we'll see real soon...

IMO I don't think we're going to see it happen with my generation. My generation is more content to look to the government to protect them and hold their hand and tell them what to do.

But but but legislation is the OBVIOUS answer!!!
The obvious way to deal with mental health issues is legislate as if EVERYONE is a psychotic killer!! seems fair.

No more guns.
No more knives (except maybe the cute little ones that are ever so handy for opening envelopes.. nah.. them too...)
From now on rocks bigger than drive-way gravel are against the law.
You will be prosecuted for making direct eye contact.
Use a stick.. go to jail.
Lengths of string, rope, or wire in excess of 1 foot require a permit.
Expressing your own opinion publicly.. 3 - 5 years.. hard labor.

I'm sure there are many more.. basically anything that you can pick up in your hands could possibly be a weapon.. so all of them are now out...

Remember.. this is all meant to help you live a more meaningfull, productive, and safer life!

As the saying goes, "I'd rather be tried by 12 of my peers, than carried by 6 of them on my back [in a box]". I'd be packing heat on campus whether the socialist sons of b*tches that run the place like it or not.

As for Jolly Old England, the UK has surpassed the US in all crimes, except for murder and rape. Shootings happen in the UK, as well as the US, but we still get the "stupid cowboy" moniker. The fact is that if everyone packs heat, or even if 50% of people pack heat, a criminal will think twice, because there's a 1 in 2 chance of looking down the barrel of the would-be-victim's gun.

I always shake my head when I see a store or restaurant post a "no weapons" sign in their front window. If I was a robber, that would be my first stop. These campus gunmen know that most people will be easy targets, because of the campus rules. I agree that it does take a sick mind to do something like this for "glory" or similar notoriety to the 1920's gangsters, the Columbine shooters, etc.

Could you provide dat for this? Are you basing this on crimes per 1000 people? I'd like to see the stats as I find this hard to believe.
