Default Slide-out Depth Gauge?

I really have never liked the tiny, almost impossible to read stock dials in SH3 that are even harder to click on exactly the setting you want.

This is why I LOVE the slide-out compass in GWX for navigation! It makes steering to an exact bearing very easy. By far, it is the most useful mod ever made for SH3.

Whoever is the author of this compass mod, you are thought of fondly and in high regard on my part every time I make a course change.

I'm just wondering if anyone has done a similar mod for the depth gauge? If such an obvious thing hasn't been done before, then I'd like to make a request for one now.

I'm getting tired of clicking on the 250m gauge and being forced to settle for a ballpark figure in the depth I really want, such as going down to 50m but getting 53m instead.

An ideal spot would be to have it slide out of the top right side of the screen, right above where the compass slides out. Linking them both to slide out might be okay but I would prefer if it were not done in this manner as too much of the screen would be obstructed (giving the option of tweaking it to have both linked or independent would be better).

My eyes aren't what they used to be and I'd sure be grateful to the compass mod author or any kind soul that would make this mod.

Default mods

There are several such mods, but not for GWX2.0 by the GWX team. One has four dials that slide out of the right side.

I've seen the four dials that slide out from the left. It's in OLC GUI, if I recall and it was just to move the dials, not make them larger and easier to read/click.

Had more in mind a large depth gauge as a companion to the slide-out compass in GWX.

I doubt irish1958 meant the _six_ OLC GUI dials (that actually ARE larger than stock SH3 dials and much more comfortable to use). He surely meant a separate mod that used to live somewhere on the Forum months ago. It was called "Big dials mod", have a search and find it. This is exactly what you are looking for.

I'd be happy to use it too, but it's not GWX 2.0 compatible.

Thank you all for the tip and thanks for the download link, Mikhayl.

However, this is not what I'm looking for.

As I said, I was wanting a very large, slide-out 250m depth gauge that is similar to the slide-out nav compass in GWX 2.0.

I am in no way familiar with any of the files in SH3 nor am I the least bit acquainted with modding these files.

I suppose I'll either have to put up with squinting and eyestrain while barking orders to the Chief..."Make your depth three-five-ish meters" or figure out how to make the depth gauge myself.

Is this mod what you want? It's not GWX 2.0 compatible though. GWX 1.03 only. Those large dials were originally from a mod by a guy named FLB Sale. But you had to manually edit the ini files. This mod contains also Sale's 'TDC dials on periscope' and navmap mods while at the same time being JSGME ready.

This was 'my favourite' before I learned about the OLC Gui.

Thanks guys.

I didn't give the link to Sale's mod as the link was dead and it didn't work in GWX2.0

Thank you for the links, guys.

Now if only I can sort out this mess to include just the depth gauge in GWX 2.0.

I suppose I'm going to be finally dragged, kicking and screaming, into doing some sort of modding.
