Default I admit to using the teleporter Esc - quit

But when I do I always make sure I have enough fuel to get back using medium speeds. I also calc the days that it would take reach home base first so that when I get back I can later open up the Basic file to add the days to time in port. This way the days getting back are figured in to the total.

On my last patrol (GWX 2.0, BF15 from Wilhelmshaven, Nov. '39) I decided to take Der Kanal Route. Coming back home was absolutely the hardest part of the patrol, took me huge amount of time and gave me a few litres of adrenaline as a bonus. Fortunately we were lucky and made it back home. I'll never use Der Kanal again, I suppose. I wouldn't have learned this lesson if I used your teleport. Many inbound U-Boots were sunk as far as I know.

Use GWX. Use the 'Kanal' buttons.

Use SH3 Commander. Set 'Near Land' TC as high as you like.

Fly through the Canal in record time.

I havn't had any excitement crossing der kanal in GWX2.0 so far. I run flank at night throught he strait and run decks awash any time I get close to an enemy ship, slowing if necessary. I also run through the center to avoid the mines, though I have yet to need to dive deep enough for it to matter.

Lucky you. I'd say your way of crossing Der Kanal is a straight way to get sunk. I was crossing it at 8 knots maximum or decks awash at about 5 knots, in moderate visibility conditions, and I met MANY escorts patrolling the area, usually patrol boats, but also a destroyer. I suppose going flank would immediately let them see me.

Also remember there is no such a thing like "going deep" in Der Kanal.

I have a question about running out of fuel.

The answer is probably in the manual . . . but I'd rather use you guys.

Anyhow, last night I was at the tail end of a lame patrol. I had only sunk two, small ships, the weather was horrible and two convoys had already gotten away. The last three ships I saw were neutral. So, I decided that I would putter around outside of Gibralter and refuel in Spain. Well, finally a fat convoy came along. I shot it up. All the while I relied on my navigation officer's reports to make sure I'd have the range to get back to port. The navigation officer's report said that I had the range to go about five hundred miles. Great! Theres a port just north of Gibralter (I can't remember the name) and it's only a couple hundred miles away.

Next thing I know, we're out of diesel fuel.

Am I misunderstanding the NO's reports? I hadn't changed my speed at all since asking for the max range vs. range to course end. The seas weren't too bad and I think my engine room guys were in good shape.

What gives?

Also, I was curious to know just what would happen if/when I docked at that neutral (blue) port. Would I receive credit for all my kills plus the renown for completing my patrol tasks? Would I lose renown for not returning to Lorient?

Another interesting thing that happened on this patrol was that I believe I experienced something like a wolfpack. Soon after the convoy contact I received a message that called for boats to "converge on U-101 at so & so coordinates", or something to that effect. I thought it might've just been one of those random messages that just happened to have my in-game Uboat number. Then I began to see other ships start exploding within the convoy. I'm like . . . hmmm, must've been a collision. Then I start seeing/hearing gunfire. I think . . . hmmm, the escorts must think they're firing at my scope. Then . . . I view all ships externally and there's a German U-Boat on the surface duking it out in the dark with a couple of destroyers! Wow. The German boat lost, but not before taking a few Brits down with her.

I thought that was pretty cool. So, was this just a chance occurence or was it a legit wolfpack thing? I've NEVER seen it before in SH3, modded or otherwise.

Oh, I also experienced a CTD soon after running out of fuel. Now it seems I can't reload my save without CTD'ing so . . . I guess there's another good patrol down the CTD drain. (I saved after surfacing just out of range of the stricken convoy. I sure would like to restart the campaign there & make a bee-line for the neutral port at slow speed.)

Edit: I found the answer to my re-supply question.
