What effect, if any, does running 'shake-down cruises' have when you're running SH3Commander with the realistic career length option enabled?

I thought I read somewhere that Gotenhafen IS the harbor for Danzig, and the game has it all wrong.

If you change the home port to Gotenhafen then you get to dock at Gotenhafen
