As ever, the glossolalia-fest that is Elizabeth Fraser and the Cocteau Twins is never far away from my CD drive:

I don't know about 2008, but in 2007 my musical moment was definitely being right in front of the stage with these guys playing

Porcupine Tree - Hatesong

Also this guy called Jaco Pastorius...

and as I couldn't get a decent vid of Jaco playing 'Havona' here's someone else playing the bass part so you get the idea:

it's a good effort, but the guy looses out a teeny bit because he's not playing it on a frettless bass. The solo at 2:00 is great; it's about the only part of this track I ever managed to learn properly, even then it took me about 6 months

Grinderman is doing it for me right now:

I'm not normally a fan of Sting's work but this his album is a bit different to his usual pap.

After an extended parental leave, now in 2008 I have picked up my semi-acoustic bass guitar again. It was lying under my bed for several years.
I started practicing again by teaching myself how to play this song:

“kiSS / goin’ blind - unplugged”

Great bass guitar playing and singing by that old toad on a bar stool, if you ask me.

I have to play “unplugged” at the moment because my “amplifier” (Verstärker) went awol.
The bass amplifier at 1:11 in this video looks exactly like mine

“Blumfeld / Verstärker”

When I have a new amplifier, I will be looking for some old friends of minds, “yea friends of mine” to see if we can get a band together again:

“Warsaw / Interzone”

Because that is what men have to do: they go to the rehearsal room to create feedback.
