Going down without a reason...

When you next find yourself in a shootout, take a look at the hull damage percent in the upper left corner of the damage control screen. It's not on the hull display like it was in SH3. This is the most likely reason you could only submerge to a shallow depth.

Oke thanks, I have seen it now and finally I get why I can't dive to low

My next patrol was almost the same actually, I ran into a big convoy, sunk 10 ships before I needed to go (ran out of torpedoes and my sub was a bit damaged

)

ye could have ya bow and stern tubes open i forgettabout em and it sinks me on the spot around 60m to80m

The tubes hut automatically after firing. If you leave them open but don't fire, below a certain depth you cannot cycle them. I haven't checked to see if they close automatically. I've dived deep after a thwarted attack with no problems though.
