Interesting that I had two diesle engines destroyed but another two were fine yet the boat was dead in the water, I couldnt use the remaining two engines, is this true to life or is this something that can be fixed.

For SD radar you must use periscope depth ... (close) enemy will mark you visually (may be) ...
For SJ radar you must use radar depth ... (close) enemy will mark you visually or (far) by radar detector (may be) ...
Radar depth (SnorkelDepth in NSS_***.cfg) for example for Gato Class =~13...11.5 m ...
