Clayp,

Can I ask you to do me a favor and confirm that your sun looks like the 2nd image? I just tried it using your exact settings and I get the sun disk as in the 1st image. If you're really getting the proper glare effect with those setting I'm going to have to roll back to whatever drivers you're using!

Thanks

JD

I run a 8800gtx. I've been using the driver version that dell last released for the card (which has to be old) as I have no problems with the games I play (including crysis) and I'm always leary to change drivers unless I have an issue.

I run SH4 with 4xAA and 8xAF. To get the sun glare/halo with AA I had to turn off the AA gamma correction (which I made sh4.exe specific via the nvidia control panel). I've found that if I increase the AA further than 4x I lose the sun glare/halo.

Hey no problem. No pictures necessary. Next you run the game just let me know what you see when you look at the sun. Does it look like pic 1 or pic 2 above?

Thanks.

JD

PS, I did find that AA gamma correction OFF makes a difference as Jason mentioned. Not sure yet if I'm getting the full Monty with that setting and AA/AF set higher than 4x. Have to do more experimenting.

I just installed a EVEA Nvidia 7800 GS OC. I also installed the new drivers found at the the Nividia driver site. These are my results:

I set up the card using the global settings and created this file to work off the sh4.exe. I set AA/AF to X4. No jaggy. Very smooth.

I see two of my screenshots on this thread. These shots were taken using a ATI X1300. At one time I was able to get sun halo as shown in the second pic. Normally the ATI looked like the first pic....just a round circle.

Driver version 6.14.11.6921. I guess the latest drivers for the 7800 card found on the Nvidia site.

Well, alrighty then... the key to getting sun glare - and - avoiding the jaggies appears to be setting AA Gamma Correction to OFF. Otherwise, you can run AA and AF at whatever value you like. I'm running mine at 8x for both, which seems to be a good balance balance between quality and performance.

Thanks guys for walking me through this one.

JD

BTW, I made these adjustments specifically for the SH4 executable. That functionality works with the 169.28 beta drivers, whereas is seems to be broken with the 169.21 and 16.25 drivers.

Glad it worked. Nothing like dumping money into something and it does not work correctly. Chaulk one up for ClayP!

This is strange, im just not sure if ANY settings are being applied to SH4.

Im trying different settings in global and per the exe (from nvidia control panel) and when i relaunch the game it really doesnt look any different. im checking it in port. FPS number is fluxing so fast its hard to read. its usually in the 30's but it jumps like crazy.

i get the same performance if i set the AA to OFF or 16x! so thats impossible that the settings are being applied correctly... also, the cranes look smooth but once you take a look at them with the binocs they look like stair steps...

maybe i should try a different driver version?

eVGA 8800 GTS 640
Res 1920x1200
Drivers 169.28 beta
same results with the dec 11th offical drivers

Did you set AA Gamma Correction to OFF?
