Help! No pilots to rescue

You usually need about 5 or 6 in the stock campaign to fulfill the mission. In the stock game, the pilot rescue gets triggered when you get a certain distance from the mission marker. You have a limited time to pick those guys up and need to be aggressive. Chase the closest smoke at high speed and keep working your way around chasing the closest smoke targets (not the icons on the map.) Again, in default, the game gives you enough targets to fulfill the requirement easily if you don't dawdle (dropping about 2-5 every 10 minutes into the game.) Don't know if the mods have affected this.
