Default New to SH3 & Convoy AI

After long experience with SH2, just got SH3.

Really blown away by how good it is. But it appears SH2 and AH3 share a common problem: Convoy AI.
Using stock SH3, ver 1.4:
Conducted an attack on an escorted convoy off Florida.
Fired 3 eels, 1 at a cargo ship, 2 at the closest DD. One dud, 2 misses. All escorts come looking for me. I sneak away. After about 20 minutes, come to periscope depth. Observe convoy.
Planes have appeared. 1 DD and 4 planes depth charging where I was.
2 more escorts are firing at one another. As I watch, two tankers collide. One more escort rams a cargo ship and sinks. Then 2 of the planes collide, then the other two. In a few minutes, the convoy is decimated.
The only difference between this behavior and SH@ is that in SH3 I did not receive credit for any of these kills.
This was very disappointing.
I've searched the forums, but couldn't find any relevant hits using terms like Convoy AI, etc.
Anybody else seen this behavior, and is there a fix?
Thanks

While I havent seen this myself, I have read about people having the seem experiences. Its also game mechanics that you dont recieve renown for ships colliding I believe. Ships need to sink by your direct actions, which would be deck gun or torps. In your case, while you did alert everyone to your presence, you didnt sink them, they sunk themselves, which would then not count as tonnage for you.

wow!

i have been playing SH3 since release date and i have never seen a single ship collision in SH3... you must have just witnessed a one in a million thing i guess.

as to why the escorts were shooting at one another - i got nothing for you there... the only time i have seen this happen is when an American destroyer was caught in the crossfire between myself and a british destroyer and the brit shot the american on accident... the two then turned on one another and had it out to the death.

over time i think you will find that SH3 AI is far better than SH2 AI, when playing SH2 i noticed many many many more ship collisions and the like.

Hi
I'm not upset that I didn't receive credit for the colliding ships, I'm disappointed that the collisions happened with such frequency in one mission. The remaining cargo ships just kept circling around. Very unrealistic.
And its now happened twice. My Florida patrol, and a patrol off Malta.
In the patrol off Malta, after detecting me two of the escorts engaged in a gun battle. Very strange.
So much of SH3 is so right. But this AI is straight out of SH2.

By mistake, I posted this query twice. I was answered in the other thread that other people have had this happen to them.
So some people see this, and other people don't? Very odd.
Is there any single file which controls convoy AI? A config file that can be modded?
Or is there a correction that exists?
Thanks all.
