There really isnt much difference between VIIC and VIIC-41 except you get different uboat upgrades(I think) Like the radar absorbing material, Tarmatte. Im in a delimma between choosing the VIIC41 or keep the VIIB that I have.
I know the depth is different in the VIIC42, but that's about all I know as this being my first career and I have yet to see it.(Dec. '43)

I dont think that there is a bug between the VIIC variants. The VIIC42 can go deeper. But if youre used to a TypeIX, then be prepared to have less tonnage because of the torpedo load. (Well, you can still get higher tonnages, just choose your targets wisely)

I like the faster diving times of the VII compared to the times of the IX. I think you'll enjoy the VII. I'm still using the VIIB and its Dec '43 and I'm loving life.
If you do pick the VII and you dont like it you can always go back to a previous save.

Edit: I'm playing GWX1.03 and SH3 Commander, too
