Default time compression

When I switch to the SONAR STATION, the time compression speeds up to really fast (like 5 minutes passing for every "real" one second passing). I have it set to the slowest setting.

Is it supposed to speed up like that? (It does this with SC too).

thanks, JL

the only thing that should cause the time compression to change is when you change the time compression.

If you didn't speed up time yourself (and you're saying that you have it on the slowest setting), than that is some kind of really weird bug I never heard of, :hmm: and no one ever reported a bug like that on this forum AFAIK.

So...check your TC setting again.

There was some such bug reported. It was related to multiprocessor computers. You must set DW to run only on one processor. You can do it with task manager. Go to DW thread (DW must be running) and use right-mouse-button menu to 'Set Affinity' to only one processor.

If it works, find some utility which does it, so you don't have to do it manually all the time. One of them is named RunOnce.exe, google it.

Thanks, everyone. That was it--the dual processor problem. I shut off one CPU, and now time compression works as it should.

Now I just have to learn all this!!!

Glad you sorted that, saw this post but didn't initially offer a reply as I thought 'goddam that's wierd, dunno what that is!'

Good luck with the game/sim it's a steep learning curve to be sure, but great fun, I'd recommend just sticking to one platform and figuring that out before you move on to the next.

Also, a great way to learn the sim is to go into the mission editor and plonk a few targets down of varying types, then fire up your 'mission' and have a go at detecting them to see what shows up when and at what range and what its signature is like. If you make them all 'allies', you'll have plenty of time to track them without worrying about getting a torpedo up your ass!

Thanks, I bought SC in order to learn from that (I had the same TC problem with SC, and now they are both fixed). I've played SHIII extensively and the old HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER, so I have a little bit of understanding. Thanks for the Mission Editor suggestion.

This solution by Dr.Sid was of great help for me as well. Thank you .

It seems dual cores and Dangerous Waters don't match pretty well.
I just wanted to add that the utility to set affinity automatically "app by app" is "runfirst" by www.activeplus.com. It's a free utility. You have to use it at runtime as for example - runfirst "dangerouswaters.exe". Place the little runtime file in the dangerous waters directory and then build a .bat file with a shortcut in your desktop. I am using it with Steam DW.

In fact I meant RunFirst, not RunOnce :rotfl:
