Well, I figured, that a ship that old must have made it through the first world war, if you are seeing it now. So, a captain of one of those ships in the first world war having the Dalzzle camo, would believe that the dazzle camo may have saved his ship. Your reasoning is sound except to my knowledge the color of the camo for convoy ships was decided by the authorities who put the convoy together. A ship in dazzle camo in the middle of an all-grey convoy would stick out as if it were painted yellow with pink stripes
