I'm not sure we can blame him on the basis that he must have been insane and insensible to his actions at the time. Or can one be rational, but still want to kill ones self? I'm not sure.

Well, they found the note in his wallet so I have to assume he was lucid enough at one time during the "planning to kill myself" stage to explain his "solution". Of course, getting to the point of being suicidal is in a sense "being sick" so who knows?

If he was rational, then he was evil.

If your suicidal then your sick and not rational.
If your lucid enough to plan killing your self you must be rational.
