Freaking shore batteries.
I was patroling in the straights between Honshu and Hokkaido, near the point off Hakodate, and I got a little too close to the north shore when ... "We're under attack Sir!" ... I popped out to find the culprit but there was narry a ship in sight. A couple more splashes and a ... "We're taking damage Sir!" ... before I figured it as shore batteries. Wasn't too much physical damage, I went PD and snuck out. On the way out however, I ended up with a contact report and a small task force of 1 DD and 2 gunboats was headed for the area of the encounter at flank speed. I went deep and quiet and let them pass.
