Thinking of pulling the Trigger
Well, I'm underway in my second patrol--this time to the Eastern China Sea. I'm not there yet--but I've already sunk a few merchant vessels with my deck gun and one torpedo. I haven't been "challenged" yet by any escorts, or even merchants changing their course, or zig-zagging. It is the beginning of the war--but it seems pretty darn easy to get tonnage--so I'm wondering if I've just been lucky so far--or if I need to "pull the trigger" on Trigger Maru--which, from what I can surmise, makes things a little more realistic, and more difficult. Or should I just try a few more patrols without it--and expect things to get harder?
I'm not an expert by any means! I do have some time in SH3, manually launch torpedos, no map updates, etc. Werner's (SP?) videos were a great help in getting me up and running with manual control in SH4. I just don't want it to be TOO difficult lol, if I try Trigger Maru. :hmm: EDIT: now I'm seeing another mod, Run Silent, Run Deep--and wondering if I should try that one?! |

You could try it and see if you like it...what have you got to lose?

Give TM a whirl. In stock the enemy ships are like a cicada invasion. You can't blink without finding more of them, so it's too easy to rack up the tonnage. I think TM incorporates some of Tater's campaign mod work, which reduces traffic. The RSRD mod is nice in that it tries to make the ship traffic much more realistic.
Someone recently summarized it nicely by saying that TM really improves the sub characteristics, and RSRD really improves the shipping characteristics, and we really need both together. I think someone is working on it this very minute. ![]()

Give RSRD. I also agree with mookiemookie, give TM and try. If you are really worried that TM will be too difficult for you right now than I would also suggest this: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=122023
It is a modified version of TM to make the AI not as strong/good as the official version of TM. |

I have Run Silent Run deep with Real Fleet boat and Real Sinking Mechinics. Very good bunch when put togeather. Its realy hard to find ships all though I ran into a 13 ship convoy lastnight. I sunk one of them and Fired on another before the destroyers drove me deeper. Was in 280 ft water so I couldnt go to deep. I decided on attack run on them was enuff. I was happy with the one ship I did get.
