Could you please save it in a more general format like RTF or even better PDF?
I'll download open office and release the tutorial as a PDF.

I read it without the pictures and it looks good. I just want to comment on this bit:
***IMPORTANT --- Remember to close the TDC window after each data entry to ensure it updates bearing and AOB information automatically (more on this later). Though we haven’t entered either bearing or AOB yet, it’s still a good habit to imprint.

That's really not necessary until after the AOB has been entered. Only the bearing and AOB get updated automatically so until you've entered the AOB there's no benefit to flipping the switch, and seeing as seconds count, why bother with extra steps.

Otherwise, perfect. Will you be adding the 1.5X zoom procedure as well?
Because I keep forgetting to flip the TDC to auto after entering the bearing and AOB, I now make it a habit of leaving it closed unless I'm actually entering data.

And yes, I will add tutorials for the 1.5 zoom AND the attack disc as time permits.

Ah, then I do apologise for wasting a minute of your time
Sorry, was my reply a bit snappy? I try not to get irritated, but those "minutes" do add up you know... and so often, people aren't asking about the mod at all, they're asking about stock behaviours that they never noticed before. I don't mind answering questions about the mod (as long as it's not questions that are answered in the readme/tutorial, or questions like why didn't you do it this way? - the time for those debates has been and gone - or can you make me a version just for me which has X, Y and Z? - sure, I charge £400 per day, here are my account details...) but explaining stock behaviour to people isn't something I'm overly keen on. I had to put one poster on my ignore list after he bombarded my PM inbox with such questions.

Until now I've never been fond of the acronym RTFM, but... it's starting to grow on me.
Whoa, hold your horses!

I didn't take your reply to be in any way snappy. I was just being (or trying to be) gentlemanly and genuinely apologise for asking - what turned out to be - a daft question that was nothing at all to do with your mod. I see how many questions and requests you're bombarded with and I try hard not to ask things that have probably been answered already, elsewhere. I am one of the rare people who really does RTFM I don't want you to be a victim of your own success so I'm trying to only ask intelligent questions. Or so I thought :rotfl:

When I first used your mod for 1.4b, I was puzzled by the "U-boat" folder that appeared in my mods list. I didn't get it - I thought maybe your folder structure was wrong in the file. I'd read the whole readme file for your mod but as I wasn't using SH3 Cmdr at the time I skipped that part in the readme. Of course, it turned out to be in there after all. At least I didn't post in here and waste another minute of your time!

So please don't take me as a person who asks before using one's own loaf! I just never noticed the scope behaviour since owning SH3 from release day. You see my post count is low, even though I've been reading the forums for a long time, and a member for a while - I only tend to speak when I have something worth contributing or asking (at least the local time issue turned out to be one such thing, even if it's yet another pain in the posterior for you to look into).

So sorry once again - I didn't take your comment badly, but you misread mine as a defensive/sarcastic remark. It wasn't! Just an "oops, my bad"

That's the worst thing about releasing this mod - supporting it has turned me into a bit of an arsehole! Just ask Pisces: he made a perfectly reasonable comment in the WIP thread and I blew up at him in a PM. Fortunately he was really understanding about it but not everyone would be, so I try to watch my words now... I guess I don't always succeed.
OLC[/quote]

One thing you may have overlooked is that a lot of people using auto have loaded up your mod tried it a few times then found they cannot go back to the old GUI. Which says a lot about your implementation.

Unfortunately this means a lot of questions about manual targetting and who better to get the answers from than the maker of the mod :hmm:

So I will just add my thanks to the many others who will no doubt convert to 100% realism due to your Mod

p.s. Can you get the WO to state whether it is Neutral/Enemy or German

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Oh right, lol! Sarcasm (or lack thereof) is always difficult to determine on a forum.

Over the last few weeks I've certainly felt snappy at times and it's hard to know whether I did a good job of not showing it!

Anyway no bother about your question (it was a quick one to answer ) and thanks for RingTFM

Hmm this is weird. I uninstalled SH3 and GWX 1.03 and reinstalled them both, installed OLC GUI 1.1.3 for GWX and I'm still getting a missing clock and single digit frame rates. Any ideas as to what's causing this?

Notice the white rectangle in the lower left hand corner.

Been using this for a few days now and seriously, wow! This is great work, and a comprehensive tutorial also.
Appreciating OLC that you've been somewhat bombarded with feedback,it's with this in mind that I'm hoping not to be a completely annoying person by asking a couple of questions.
OK here goes, basically I want to tweak one or two small things to suit my playing style.Firstly I'm a big keyboard fan and I'd love to be able to bind the auto tdc button(I think I found this one in Commands.cfg) and the button which calls up the main control/telegraph/depth dial.Is this possible? If so could you please point me in the right direction?Secondly and this really is a minor cosmetic tweak, how would I go about re-positioning where the CE's report dials pop-up?
Apologies in advance if I'm being a pain in the a**e,at the end of the day neither of these issues will stop me from using this great mod! Many thanks for the hard work and time.

No worries achilleez.

Binding a shortcut key to the TDC auto-update... Yes, you can do it, but there will be a problem: pressing the key won't show/hide the firing solution dials panel (bearing, range, aob, speed) it will just switch the TDC between auto and manual ("in the background" if you like). Because of that I advise against using the KB shortcut to avoid confusion as to whether the TDC is on auto or not, but, if you're confident you can keep track of it, playing that way won't break anything in the mod. You sound pretty knowledgable about the files but just in case you don't know how to bind a key: you can find and download the Set Keys program and use that.

To change the position of the CE Reports popup, disable the mod in JSGME, open menu_1024_768.ini (the one in the MODS\OLC GUI... folder, not the one in your SH3\data... folder) and find an entry called something like "FBAC dials slideout". That entry will have a line that reads

Pos=A,B,C,D

where A,B,C,D are numbers. Lowering/increasing A will move the position of the dials left/right respectively. Lowering/increasing B will move them down/up respectively. Do not change C or D. When you've saved the change, re-enable the mod and try it out. Note that you'll need to completely restart the game each time you make a change, in order for the change to take effect.

If you're referring to the bearing indicator, yes it was in the last version, but it was in a different position on the screen. I moved it to get around a problem with the Flaggen chart (stock hardcoding issue, can't be changed so I had to get around it another way). I trust it's OK in the new position?
yeah, that's cool. its not a big deal, i prefer the more open view but a man has to do what a man has to do.

Hi OLC but how do you conduct surface attack with the UZO since all the calculation must be done in the attack periscope station.

Great mod btw

Castout, He covers that in the video. If you haven't watched it, it is most helpful.

Firstly, here's the updated OLC GUI tutorial, now in ultra-cool PDF format !!!

Still no attack disc included (maybe as soon as I figure it out well enough to explain it to others without bursting my hepatic artery or confusing the hell out of them). But for those Kaleuns who enjoy playing chicken with Whale Factory ships and don't raise the periscope until they're trading paint, the tutorial now explains how to target a vessel at 1.5X zoom (yay!).

If you find a spelling or grammatical error, feel free to curse me under your breath, but please keep it to yourself. I'm too drunk to care about such trivialities and I plan stay that way for quite some time. Deal with it by feeling morally superior to me for the next week or so :p. I'm sure by then you'll be so proficient at topedoing merchant shipping with this mod that the tutorial will become redundant and pointless and redundant:hmm:. Oh, and I know the images are too compressed. Sorry .

Secondly, thanks for downloading and reading it. I hope y'all find it useful. I wouldn't have bothered to write it if no one had requested it, so here ya go!

Thirdly, thanks again OLC for your fantastic mod!

Well, let's get to the point then. Here's the link:
