The money you will spend on a Good 5.1 system (or 7.1) will get you a Great headphone, but I must say I prefer a Good surround system over headphones any day, I don´t like wearing headphones, I can move around as I please and the only drawback is disturbing the neighbors/other members of the family, not too much of a drawback here.

Oh yeah, make sure you have a decent soundcard, not just the "normal" with only one output plug, a 5.1/7.1 system won´t work on that.

Just check the back of your computer (in rare cases it might be at the front), if you see less than three 3.5mm holes a 5.1 system won´t work (two or three holes is normal for a non surround card, one output, one microphone and sometimes one input).

I'm using Creative Labs 5.1 surround sound speaker setup. with 5.1 Silverline Headphones, the sound you hear from them sounds the same as if coming through the speakers.
