Good greif, i think id have to toss a coin between Kirk and Picard. The Next Generation took awhile to grow on me, but once it stuck it was hard to let go. So.. for me its a toss up between the two. After next generation thoguh, i stopped watching. It was just getting long in the tooth and overdone after that.

Default Sisko vs Picard

I did cast a vote for Jean Luc Picard, but if Benjamin Sisko was there, he would have received my vote. However, some certain pollster decided to omit him from the poll...

I am surprised at the amount of people who would have voted for Sisko though - I didn't think many other people besides me really liked DS9. I am not surprised that no one has voted for Janeway or Archer (at least at the time of this post), although I have nothing against either of them and actually watched Voyager and Enterprise quite often. Actually, I liked the series finale of Voyager better than some Start Trek movies (like Generations or Insurrection) - much better than the second part of the series finale of DS9 (which felt rushed and poorly planned to me).

It's got to be Kirk, and I'll tell you why too:

Crewman: What on Earth are we gonna do!?
Captain James T Kirk: Nuke the planet from orbit, but beam up the bad guy's chick first, I want to get down with her.

or..

Crewman: What on Earth are we gonna do!?
Insert any Next Generation captain's name: We must retire to a safe distance and consider the Prime Directive. Let's have a discussion with the onboard psychologist and then have a play in the Holodeck for a while. Make it so.

And what about Captain Christopher Pike or whatever his name was, the original NCC-1701 Enterprise Captain, where's he on the poll?

Based on one Fecking pilot episode which was a flop, and nearly spelled the doom of the show before it even got going.

Who bought this Fecking thread back? Ass Biscuits I'm a happy camper, girls.

PS: I've been watching Farther Ted.
PPS: I go in to Farther Jack mode for a few hours, Feck off.

Shatner has wrote books on Star Trek. I'd hardly call that sweeping it under the carpet.
