Afternoon hun
IIRC its 3 patrols or 6 months in a flotilla before you can transfer Hopefully your 5 patrols have taken longer than that Not sure why the armed tub didnt chase you Most odd Sometimes the sunk icons are grey due to sinking outside of visual range Sinking by weather Sinking when only picked up on radar But can also happen in other stoopid SH3 ways As long as the sinking is in your log no need to worry really |

ahh, 6 months hey...hmm. Could be it, don't think it is more than about 3 months since I started this career...
The seas were good so it wasn't weather, and although I had my head down because of the escort, the ship was so close I could have eyeballed it, so that weren't it either. As you say, it got counted as tonnage, so I will not worry. The other boat just idling, and then not coming after me though - that's interesting - but that sort of unpredictability makes the game even more attractive I think! thanks BigBoy! ![]() |

Ive had a similar situation happen to me N'W of Lowerstoft.
There I managed to creep between the escorting Armed trawler and the merchant whereby I fired two torpedos and sank it. (the merchant that is) Then the Armed trawler came looking for me did a fair job and came close, droping depth charges however they missed. He mad about three or four runs then he just parked up and sat there?? When I used the external camara to have a look at him, as I was curious to see why, I noticed they had run out of depth charges. There were no more on the decks and the crew were gone. I think that perhaps the trawler had reached the end of its escort run and due to the limitations of the game had just stopped where it was?? :hmm: When it comes to my game and my career I will just assume they stopped to pick up survivors, thats how I like to look at it. ![]() ![]() Its only happened to me once, it was around Sept 1939, AN73'37 |

Otto, you have described a practically identical scenario to mine, except that I could not see clear detail on the trawler as it was too dark. How strange...

Another thing to ponder...those poor armed trawlers really aren't fast enough to get away from their own depth charges, especially in shallow water, it will frequently happen that they blow their own DC racks off and sometimes even sustain enough damage to eventually sink. They will also damage or destroy their own screws, hence dead in the water....
I've seen this happen several times, even with flower corvettes in very rough weather, they simply can't make enough speed to get away. Crewing on an armed trawler is a thankless job anyhow, they're not really warships after all and can't stand up to anything that is, I once took the time to look up a list of ships lost by the Royal Navy during WW2 and the humble armed trawler had a disproportionate number lost. If you compare the firepower on a Liberty Ship to an armed trawler you'll notice the Liberty Ship is far more dangerous in a surface engagement |

One the grey ship icons, I too have had similar situations where i've hit a merchant with my eels, only for it not to sink, and then hours later and me not getting crefit for it. Also ship can sink in very heavy weather, and this is shown by the grey sunk icon.
As for that pesky armed trawler, just ignore it or if your feeling brave - surface, man the deck gun, and blow that mother away! |
