Is the software overclocking the card. My ati card can be overclocked using software, once while trying it out I triped the safty and it throttled back the card something similar happend to me that is happening to you.
So check the software make sure your not overclocking the card or make sure your not tripping the safty and making your card throttle down

Now if the problem does recur with the case open and the fan blasting, my next guess would be your video card... may be defective. That said, my third guess - your power supply - may be easier to troubleshoot. Unless you have access to a spare video card exactly like the one you're using now, swapping it out will also mean a driver change (or reconfiguration) and a host of other variables that will make it difficult to tell what's changed and what caused it. Swapping out the power supply, on the other hand, is straight forward. All you need to watch out for is that it's big enough. Keep in mind that you do not have to completely rip yours out and install another one. Just unplug the power to your main board and the video card itself (if applicable) and plug in the new (test) unit along side the existing (you'll need them both on). If the problem goes away, then you can start ripping things apart. ![]() JD |
