The bearing line will show on f5. If you play on 100% realism, I am not sure if this is true.

Maybe:

Maybe your seeing people reporting a bearing from the line like Irish suggested. Too my knowledge, (At least in Grey Wolves) it does not "Give" you the type of contact, in words like "Escort Radar Detected" or "Aircraft Radar Detected". Maybe when players report this, they are judging from the speed that the range increases or decreases, or from how fast the bearings change to target, which would give them an idea weither its a ship or an aircraft.

Besides, when players post here, they already know what type of contact it was, chances are they delt with it and are posting their results of the engagement.

Not sure wether other U-boat captains get this with there radar detectors - I get Red lines for detected radar, but also get grey lines. Now im guessing that red lines are for ships, and grey for aircraft. Not really sure, or had time to prove this, as I dive as soon as possible so im not detected.
