Just got it and finished watching it an hour ago.
The Original Uncut version...just...wow...I am in awe. Well worth the wait (been trying to get my hands on it for...hell...since I first heard of it.) and yes, well worth the wait! ![]() |

It's great, but I still miss things that are in the book. Got a Dutch copy of the book :p

Welcome to the (extreme) club! I've had it since its release, and never get tired of it.
Yes, the book is a little different, but this version of the movie comes closer than most (witness the recent 3:10 To Yuma).

I was like you. For years I kept watching the directors cut. But the Uncut version takes it to yet another level. Do yourself a favour and buy it. Sailor Steve. Have you still got the Amazon link to help people join the Extreme Club? Steve set me on the right path there ![]()

Having seen the original U.S. release of Das Boot "back in the day", I hadn't seen it again until AMC channel broadcast it this past July (used my PVR to record it...heh). The broadcast was the "director's cut" which was an English language dub. IIRC, the original release was in German with English subtitles. What is the difference between the "extreme" version and the Director's cut?

@Hakahura: Of course.
Region1 (US) http://www.amazon.com/Das-Boot-Origi...9720524&sr=1-2 Region2 (Europe) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Das-Boot-Min...9720644&sr=1-1 Of course it's easy for me to still "have it", since I just type in www.amazon.com or www.amazon.co.uk @i_b_spectre: Here I go again (actually typing it all out is quicker and easier than finding the old threads).:rotfl: The longest version has many extended scenes of the crew keeping themselves from being bored, a much longer 'night club' sequence which includes The Old Man and Thomsen discussing torpedo failures and other problems, intercut with scenes of Ullmann and Francoise (yes, she actually appears in this version) discussing thier problems. She also appears in an extended 'leaving port' sequence. There are three separate 'air attack' ALAAAARRRRMMMM scenes, including one which may or may not be an airplane at all. There are many more extra scenes and extended scenes, but my favorite point is that the whole thing is actually narrated by Lt. Werner! All-in-all, it's five hours well spent.

I know I could have googled it Steve.
Sure anyone else could too. I just wanted to give credit to the guy who corrected my course.
