Default Consider It A Waste?...

Hi, new on forum and to SH4.

I always loved hunting convoys in the Atlantic during SH2, well we using homing topredoes to disable merchants as well as capital ships.

In SH4, I have encountered a counterpart to the German Homing Torpedo, The Mk27. However, as I've read in certain posts, American Homing Fish should be used ONLY to eliminate escorting DDs of their propulsion systems. Contrary to that use, I've been having much sucess in getting in the center of a convoy, stirring up some trouble to seperate the group and subsequently firing a Mk27 at high value targets, with the end results being the main convoy moves on without hi-tonnage targets being left behiind to be picked off at will..

Now, I've been wondering? are these tankers worth the topredoes valued at 500 a pop?

Answers greatly appreciated.

With Respect,
Krauter.

Well alot of folks say they should be used "ONLY" for that use.

Personally, I ... as you have had some success putting them in different roles

Cost... pffft. Renown... still an ailen concept. I guess if you have enough 'pull' with the politico's your can get better torpedoes :p Dont sweat it they will become 'affordable' quickly.

I always carry a few Mk27's (time period permitting) but there placed in stores 1 in the stern and a couple in the bow.

yes, however I dont go overboard and spend 2,000 renown on one trip, its a waste, put on in stern two at most in bows.. after that, i wont, unless i know for sure im running up against heavy escorts/large convoys (ie. mouth of the tokyo bay, holy sht, bagged 60k tons in one trip by just taking out a couple of tankers and DDs escorting..

With Regards,

Krauter
