Can you have radar on the VIIb? I didn't think you could becuase the conning tower is not right.

The first radar detectors (FuMB 1 Metox 600A) were not fitted to boats until August 42 onwards. By this time the VIIB was quite old and those that had survived were relegated to training flotillas.
A little in depth research might yield you a more detailed answer though :hmm: |

In game the VIIC is always open to more upgrades....I prefer to start with a type II and wait for a VIIC in April 40

The first radar set on the Type VII was the FuMO-29. IIRC, first seen in late '42 or early '43. It consisted of 12 dipole antenna (six for sending and 6 for receiving) located around the front of the bridge. It was limited to a 60-degree arc and could locate contacts up to about 2+ nautical miles depending on weather.
The second radar set on the Type VII was the FuMO-30. IIRC, first seen around April or May '43. It was the first radar set with a revolving antenna (thus a 360-degree arc) that stored on the port side of the conning tower. It had a little bit greater distance than the FuMO-29. The FuMO sets should not be confused with the Metox (FuMB) which came out in mid to late '42 and was know as the Biscay Cross. This was the first radar detection unit for air and sea. It could detect the allies radar at a great distance than could the allies detect the u-boat. This was later followed by Nexus and other units as the Allies change radar frequencies. |

Im in a VIIB and it's dec 1940 and I could swear that a Town Class had me on radar. I dont have any radar detectors.
I spotted her just around 15Km. Dived to 30m, did silent running, ahead 2 knots. Then I tried to up the TC to let the Town go by, but the TC wouldnt go above 32(which due to sh3 cmdr, is my max "being hunted" value) The uboat detect-o-meter never changed from green, so I wondered as how I was being hunted. Strange. The Town must have had me on radar. Is there a list of dates for radar equipped escorts, ie. Class andType of radar? much thanks. |
