Default A Sparrow Missile

A sparrow ( AIM-7 sparrow ) tops out at mach 4, as for hitting a battleship, what era of battleship, first or second world war. Actually give me a specific battleship and I'll try and do the math for you, no guarentee's I'll be able to, but I'll try. From just logical thinking though, one 88 lbs warhead hitting a tens of thousand ton battleship seems to me to be kinda like spitting at a 747, but I'll do the math and let you know!!

Default Expert, huh?

Cool! We have a thread about using Fast-90 U-Boat style attacks with an American submarine. Can you find examples of American sub doing the same or similar attack strategy and provide details in the mechanics?

It's been suggested that O'Kane and Morton both did something similar, so that is a good starting point. Thanks in advance!

CSH,

I believe the sparrow question was taken from Monty Python and not meant for a serious answer.

However the proper answer to that question would be ...

"African or European sparrow?"

I'm not trying to get techinical here, but I mention nothing about submarines in my bank of knowledge. If i knew of submarines, I wouldn't be on here trying to learn about tactics to use to sink Japenese Ships!!!! I've been reading your different posts, and I'm pretty sure you know the answer to the question you asked, so plz, enlighten the rest of us. That doesn't mean that I won't go research what you are asking I just have a better knowledge of Ships, planes, tanks ect. Thanks for the question, your just going to have to wait till I am able to work on a answer for you.

If a Gato leaves pearl heading for tokyo at 9 knots, and a Balao leaves Freemantle at the same time, heading for tokyo, traveling at 5 knots. Who gets there first?

How many days was the standard Waffen SS training?

What colour shirt did the Sturmovik pilots wear?

How long were the swords used by japanese officers?

How fast could a Stuka dive before taking structural damage?

:hmm:

Default A few answers

The waffen SS training consisted of several months of combat training. combat training consisted primarily intensive basic training with three objectives; physical fitness, small-arms proficiency and political indoctrination. 1 in 3 trainee's didn't get out of training and we're sent to the regular army. After initial training SS members were sent to furthur training for proficiancy in there specified combat field.

The stuka Dive bombers were the dive bombing division of the German Luftwaffe ( nothing like stating the obvious eh??:rotfl They consisted of JU-87 dive bombers below are the stat's for the JU-87.

Junkers 87's

Two seat dive bomber that entered into service in 1939, Max speed was 400 km/h. armed with two wing mounted MG 17 machine guns, plus two 7.62mm MG81 machine guns in rear cockpit. could only carry one center-line 1,800 kilogram bomb.

the answer is 400 km/h.

I don't know the length of a japenese sword carried by officers of the top of my head. But since so many were made during world war two, by so many different swordsmiths, it would be fair in saying it probably varied depending on what branch of the military you were in. I do know that the sword's carried by some officers were 53 inches in length, although I don't know which division carried them.

and as for your mathematical Question, I have to do some research on distances and such, my question for you is, are we mesuring as the bird flys or as the sub travels, and if it's as the sub travels, do you want the fastests most direct route, or do you want the route that won't get you killed if travelling at 5 and 9 knots respectively. Furthurmore, I hope I'm not a pain in the ass, but if you want as the sub travels and the route that won't get you killed, then what year of the war would you like that in??? a little more detail and then I can give you a answer. If i don't hear from you I will do as the bird flies and get back to you!!!

Sturmovik pilots wore the same uniform as the rest of the Russian Army and the only way to tell the difference was if they were officers they wore special shoulder boards. They were a very uniform country and did not like to distinguish between different parts of the armed forces.

to answer the question about the sub leaving freemantle. It wouldn't get there traveling 5kts because it'll run out of fuel first. Because we all know going 5kts is a waist of fuel. You have to be going 9kts.

If you think the thread is strange, then plz don't post in it and save your comments for another thread. I'm trying to help people with serious questions about War History.
