From reading certain posts in the main SH4 forum, it looks like Japanese radar might still need to be tweaked in order to represented realistically (e.g., is their air search radar still picking up surface contacts?) From Combinedfleet.com:

the type 13 air search radar is still picking up surface contacts post 1.3. With the new 1.3-compatible AI_sensors.dat tweak file now available, this is easily fixed. Just bork the type 13 by setting its maxrange to 1.
The type 13 was mainly installed on destroyers so it really effects gameplay. |

Assuming it is still picking up ships:
http://mpgtext.net/subshare/251IJN%2...adar%20fix.rar That NULLs the type 13 radars on the jap DDs. When they get Type 21s, they have surface search. tater Last edited by tater; 08-19-07 at 12:48 PM. |

people tested that little mod and confirmed the type13 is working as surface search radar. The version I posted above forgot to change the gunboats, I will update it shortly. tater |

I noticed that when using silent 3ditor that there is a value for type 13 which is
MinSurface= (maybe this value is the surface area needed for detection) . |

Added the gunboats and fishing boats to the list of NULLed type 13s. tater |

Thanks for the update, tater.
From reading the records of Japanese Navy ship movements at combinedfleet.com, many of the dates we have for the Type 21 and Type 22 radars are off. I fixed a couple of them, but I'm refraining from uploading it, because my data is fragmentary. |

Note that I didn't mess withthe dates, I just nulled the type13. Some ships in stock sh4 get type13 in october 42. The rest in sept 43. In reality the later date is more likely for escorts---if it wasn;t functionng as surface search.
Type 21 would have been rare on escorts, and wasn't around til aug 43. Type 22 was late 44. Quote:

Crap, I didn't check the sampans.
They all have "FUMO23" radar from day one. WTF. Looks like a new version might be needed if FUMO also works that way. Looks like it's german BATTLESHIP radar. LOL tater |

Guess I'll expand this to an overall radar fix in the next couple days. I'll end up giving radar earlier to a few big ships (named at combinedfleet), and making sure a few more are radar free (notably the sampans with german fumo23 radar, lol).
I might make a radar variant BP-clone of one DD type to give radar a little early just to mix things up. I'll pick a type usually on fleet duty, not Minekaze or Mutsuki (probably Asashio). I'll double check all the merchants, too. All that should add up to making night surface attacks much more possible. tater |

Looks like I might need a 2.0
![]() Actually, the problem is that at soem level it's probably best to pick an average date since so many ships got radar in a haphazard way. Look at Mushashi vs Yamato, for example. If you can come up with a good set of typical dates by ship class, I'll certainly add it in! Another thing is that I really don't know anything about how the 21 is modeled vs the 22. tater |
