Default Star shells?

Hello,
Are there star shells in the game? I'm running GWX1.03 loaded via SH3 commander. if so how do you get them?
thanks

PS: I did the convoy uboat skool again, this time with great success. I tried a dozen or so times to sink the forward DD outright, but gave that up. I was finally able to get both the DD and the smaller escort after some maneuvering, then surfaced to finish off all the other merchants. All without getting shot at once!

If memory servs GWX removes the starshells as research would indicate U-boats never used them or were not issued them.

You can manually add some back in your basic.cfg

OK, thanks
Just for playing's sake, I dont need them. I just read where someone shot at a sailboat or something with a starshell. That would be pretty cool.

Starshells were shot up from a Hunt or similar after a Merchant within a Convoy was hit by a torpedo to illuminate the area and locate the Sub.

They also boosted the number of AP and HE shells when they removed the star shells from the game.

Speaking of starshells. I reenabled them in GWX, but I find that somehow they behave differently from their stock (vanilla) behavior. Meaning: In vanilla SH3, IIRC from two years ago, when I was playing it, starshells could be fired at any distance, even at 1000 meters, and they started to burn somewhere up in the sky. Now, after reenabling them in GWX, if I fire them at any elevation closer than 8000 meters, they simply fall in the water. I must fire them at ~ 10 kms if I want them to stay in the sky and glow. And they are not much useful, if I'm chasing a lone merchant at 2 kms, want to see its flag, and the "lightbulb" in the sky glows so far away that it does not lighten up anything near me. Anyone noticed this behavior? Is there a known explanation to this?

If you want to delete the Star Shell icons and also incidentaly the Armor Pearcing icons from your game, as they are not loaded in GWX boats. You can find them here, remember of course to 'rollback' SHIII Commander first if you use it.

They did on mine, and I am playing GWX 1.03. Not available to fire, but the icons were there until I deleted them.

Then you have another mod enabled which changed the menu_1024_768
As the pic I posted shows they dont appear
The AP icon is used by the AA guns too IIRC
