Technically, it was the forecast potential of receiving your hard(-earned?)-cash that fed him while the game was under development. The dev team had been well and truly fed by the time you even had the opportunity to buy the game.

Also, I trust you're aware that any additional development time on the game is entirely at the discretion of Ubisoft management, and not the development team? (I wouldn't be surprised if the devs would find themselves in extremely hot water if they took it upon themselves to develop further patches in their own time.)
