Well, it is a subsim. Read any WW2 patrol logs? Disappointment is a very common thing for crews of these boats to feel. But, it adds to the thrill and sense of accomplishment when you do bag some juicy ships and manage to slip away to tell the tale.

It's also a game though, so a good idea is to save it periodically. That way if an engagement doesn't work out, you can reload to just before and try again. Once armed with foresight, you can make a much better approach and really sick it to 'em.
