Default Which do YOU like better and Why?

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the board so a Big hello to everyone here.

I probably should have said hi long before now as I've been playing SH right back to SH2. I held off buying SH3 because I was so busy playing No 2, but clearly I made a BIG mistake doing that and following my eventual SH3 purchase I immediately splashed out on SH4. I modded SH3 to GWX and now can't put it down. Wife is going bezerk and I'm sailing a fine line, but I've got a few questions for you all if okay with you guys:

1) Which of the silent hunter games do you best like and why?
2) When considering the SH you play most what feature would you like to import from the other version/s in to your current game and why?
3) What don't you like about the version you are playing?

Well for me, nothing comes close to GWX - reason is much more depth and gameplay options than stock SH3. (Downside load times are longer)

I love the water out of SH4 and would love to import this feature in to GWX. Love the way the Gato is visible through the water and when you go deeper it slowly dissapears from view - very cool feature.

GWX Load times are a drag. I also think much more multiplayer interaction would be good. I'd change that if I could to get people playing SH like Counter Strike.

Penny for them!

Regards

P

I love all of them; well, not SH4 because I can't play anything right now, so I can't honestly say I love something I've never seen...but...

SHCE: The complete SH1, with patrol disc add-ons and Hawk's Silent Hunter Utilities, which modified many things to historical standards, was a great game; but then so were Silent Service and Aces Of the Deep.

SH2: Absolutely hated not being able to have a real career. On the other hand, multi-play with Destroyer Command was a huge treat.

SH3: I haven't played it since before GWX was released, and I will probably change things once I have it; but with all the mods I was using SH3 was better than great, so I have no complaints.

Sorry, choosing is tough, but I will probably love SH4 and continue to play both it and SH3 until I drop dead, or until something even better comes along.

I played the original Silent Hunter veeeeery much back then.

Got SH2 too but it was way to buggy to play it really extensively and I just gave up at some point.

And SH3 is the best out the series I played so far. Along with GWX it get's far better but it was already better than SH1 without GWX. And not only because it was newer.
Stock SH3 was more challenging I think and had more atmosphere from the beginning than SH1.

SH1 was just too easy, a noob as me (back then) shouldn't be able to play it through so easily on the highest realism settings .

Got AOD too but it wouldn't ever run really well on my machine that disturbed the fun.

I like SH3 + GWX (and plain ol' stock Sh3) because it has better gameplay overall compared to the new release. SH4 looks purddy, I'll give it that, and incorporates many things SH3 could've used, but it comes across as too sterile for my taste. But to be fair, mods will eventually alleviate that problem, imo.

I still have a soft spot in my heart for Aces of the Deep. Super game!

i havent played SHIV yet, it loos kick-ass though. When i heard about SHIV i was still playing vanilla SHIII.... then i heard about GWX and when i downloaded it the changed were so amazing that it feels like im playing a new game! So that cooled my interest in SHIV until some mods are out... and until i upgrade my rig...

HOWEVER i will always have a softspot for SHIII over SHIV because i prefer the theatre of war. im not a big fan of the pacific war and prefer the Atlantic/Mediterranean theatre. And id rather be a german submariner in a "U"-boat than an american

I'm still enjoying SHIII with GWX. GWX was the best thing that happened to SHIII. Maybe someday SHIV will be the same.
