Default [REQ] Crew Cheers

Would'nt it be cool if after a torpedo struck home, your crew showed some kind of excitement? In GWX, the soundtrack from "Das Boot" is used when a torpedo hits. Mabey one of our modding gurus could take some sound bits from a movie like "Run Silent, Run Deep" for instance. I remember alot of crew cheering going on when they sunk the first Destroyer useing the "Bow Shot".

Anybody up for it?

My crew nods happily and pumps their fists in the air with each torpedo hit.

Yours does nothing?

DS, my crewmen do pump their fists and all, but would'nt it be neat to hear some cheering to match the body language?

I've never even seen the 'fist pumping' or other indications from the crew that a torpedo hit. Do you have to be looking at the crew *right* when the torpedo hits to see it? I'm almost always looking through the periscope, so I'd never notice. It'd be cool to have some audio feedback from the crew for this reason, 'cause then you'd hear them cheering even while looking through the periscope.

Jmack, I understand why you never liked the cheering. People are/were dying and that's nothing to celebrate. The unfortunate reality is that the human element is forgotten, just like the Uboatmen in the videolink you provided stated. The only concern was the target ship, and not the men crewing her. I don't really believe, at least for the most part, that the cheers were for the killing of human beings, but rather for the sinking of the ship itself, as well as the loss of the cargo she was carrying.

Let's face it. A submarine's primary job is to attack and destroy enemy shipping. When the job is done correctly, after all the calculations come togeather, you're gonna feel some satisfaction when the torpedo hits home.

But the cheering would just give you away to a destroyer, giving them a bearing on your boat.

Your cheering wouldnt be heard over the massive amount of white noise the explosion and descending column of water would be putting out! The cheers arent an issue if your just hitting a lone or a small merchant convoy with out escorts.

So cheering on! its was done, it was common, its immersion. If your still worried and dont like your crew cheering out loud, put them under silent running.

From what I see in the SH4 directory the sound files for crew cheers are there, and some of the dat and cfg files that manage the crew speech are similer or identical to SH3. It may be possible to mod a few new crew sounds in...
