Default Req: Better gun smoke

Is it possible to redo the smoke from the cannons to be more like the smoke given off by the smokestacks? It'd be pretty nice, because it would allow more for a cloud of smoke around the boat after you've been hammering away at a crippled merchant for a while. If the emitter type cane be modified to the smokestack style smoke, it would definately be a lot better looking and more atmospheric.

I think you have a wrong image of gun smoke... especially the small guns from subs would not create so much smoke... I think it's ok the way it is now... the only thing is the smoke from big guns, especially BBs... although they have a nice effect, the smoke should stay a little longer...

Default Where there's smoke, there's fire.

I've always thought the diesel exhaust and smoke from surface vessels is too weak in SH4. In SH2 a burning vessel had big black plombs going up into the Stratosphere and spreading out like a canopy, it actually darkened the sky. I'm sure that's much more like how it would look and that sim is 2 generations old! It'd be nice to see a MOD concentrating on that.

The gunsmoke shouldn't dissipate anywhere near as fast as it does. Even a small caliber gun creates a decent sized cloud of smoke if rapid fired, and the smoke doesn't vanish into thin air after a few seconds. Putting 30 or 40 rounds into a cargo ship while remaining stationary should create at least some ambient smoke. As it is, the smoke fades in a couple seconds, and remains stationary relative to the gun no matter how fast you're moving.

Particles like gunsmoke dissipate after a few seconds, like sinking ships disappear after reaching a certain depth, to keep polygon counts down.

But if the smoke type could be changed to the same as the smokestacks or fire smoke, it would allow for more natural dissipation effects.

Default In the MOD Die Slowly

Redwine and I managed to get large amounts of smoke from burning ships that will
block out the sun and in the new one he is working on I set up the fires and smoke
to be pretty intence from the tankers when the cargo's ignite and burn on the
surface of the ocean. The smoke can be seen for miles until the fires die out.

But with the guns the best you can do is get a good quick muzel fire effect and
even a slight halo that you can see in the night time shooting.
