Default Topic already visited

As the Title of this thread goes, this topic has already been visited. But I feel it necessary to start up a new thread regarding it, for my situation differs from others posted.

OK . . . I return from a refit at the Submarine Tender off Guadalcanal back to my patrol station . . . I have dived to 100 ft before, without an issue . . . but once back to my patrol station, a target of oppertunity approuches in the name of a European liner running south south east towards Saipan from the north, escorted by the standard three destroyers. Those of you who have patrolled this area know this to be a relatively common site (once every week each way).

Therefore, due to the known escorts off in the distance, I test the thermal layer slowly, until finding it at 165 feet. I make depth for Periscope, and on the way up, without warning, out of no where, something wholey unpredictable happens. I get quick messages of taking flooding in my aft sections, and after 10 seconds, while trying to blow ballast tanks, I get a black screen. This brings me to the postumous awards, and the statue "you're dead" screen.

Now this is where my issue differs with others. I have refitted and repaired all systems at the Tender, taken on full previsions and ordanance loads . . . and I still get an instadeath at depth.

Therefore, do tenders actually make full repairs . . . and if I refit at an actual base, will they make full repairs . . . or are we looking at a situation where you have to dock to truly get everything?

No, tenders do not repair you, and yes, docking at homebase does repair you.I'm not a nittwitt on these things, found out the hard way (just like you I guess)Reg Bando

Ok, thus begs the question . . . if you refit at a base, rather then a Tender . . . does it provide full repairs? I have an over whelming feeling that the answer is no, it doesn't repair you . . . but on the off chance that I am wrong, I shall ask for the benifit of the entire community.

Maybe check out the Die Slowly Mod as well, it addresses some of the sub damage stuff, have a look at the read-me. Mod by Redwine and a few helpers ( can't think of names, sorry ). Know it does not address your original question, but is another option.

I too recommend this mod.

It also helps with a problem known as "Domino Damage".

And no, the refit in home port does not heal your submarine. You'll have to dock and end the patrol. I'm sorry. The suggestions made in the above topics are right on the mark. Redwine and Leovampire are working on something beautifull. In it's current state it adresses the "domino effect" meaning your sub, as it takes damage, will not suddenly plunge into the depths, well, at least at a much lesser extend and as a bonus the way the enemy ships sink is much more diverse. The mod is called die slowly 1.4 and can be found at the modders forum. Reg Bando

A refit is simply getting new supplies. In order to repair your submarine it must go into drydock so the hull can be inspected and properly repaired.

Btw- Drydock means taking it out of the water.

My last patrol I took a hit from a bomber. Had a hole I could drive a truck through in my graphics representation of my boat. When the damage occurred, it said I had damged a bulkhead and something else in the forward torpedo room.

The repair crew did their duties and the bulkhead and other damage were removed from the damaged lists and no unit strength was lost on the repaired parts, however I still had a hole in the side of my boat.

I made for the tender near Perth Fremantle and refit. Fuel, torps, and gun ammo. Still had the hole.

I eventually went around the horn and made for Perth/Fremantle and docked by ending the mission. When I came back out to start the next patrol the hole was gone. Boat as good as new.

I would say ending the mission. There is no option for entering into drydock. Would be handy to have though.

Not unless you want to spend weeks, instead of months, in between patrols.

Sorry, I do understand what Drydocks are . . . It's just that when refitting, all repairs on the damage screen was removed . . . and since I don't play with external camera . . . I am not able to do a visual inspection of the Boat . . . like how pilots inspect their aircraft before taking off again.
I was under the false impression that do to the instant repairs when refitting at a tender, they would also do what they could to do to repair the vessel. I guess only if the Tenders were teamed up with the Mobile Dry Docks such as the AFDMs . . . would refit include full repairs. I guess that could be something worked into 1944 events.

Oh and tell me about this mod. I am only running the mod to fix the covers of the Officers and Chiefs, otherwise running the 1.2 on vanilla.

Refit @ tender/port = restocking of all weapons & fuel.

The only way to REPAIR the sub is to end the current patrol.
