Default [REQ] Ship ideas for SH4 (with pics!)

This page has many interesting ships on it:
http://ww6.enjoy.ne.jp/~iwashige/modellist.htm

Kazan maru (Toa Kaiun,2089grt) IJN Aux.Gunboat(Escort Sloop)
Completed in Mar 1926.

Peking maru (Dairen Kisen, 2266grt) IJN Aux.Gunboat(Escort Sloop)
Completed in Dec 1937.
Torpedoed on 28 July 44 at the west of Luzon by USS Aspro(SS309) after run aground.

Chojusan maru (Chosen Yusen,2131grt) IJN Aux.Gunboat(Escort Sloop)
Completed in Feb 1929.
Torpedoed in the East China Sea on 9 Nov 44 by USS Queenfish(SS393).

Note the landing barges on deck. THAT would be cool, just to have the barges the way there are trucks, etc.
Kinka maru(Kokusai Kisen :later OSK,9306grt) IJA Military Transport
Completed in Feb 1938.
Heavily damaged on 14 Nov 44 in Manila Bay by US Carrier Aircrafts, later sunk.

Now that's a great link Tater. Is there any possibility to port these into the game?
Maybe Captain Cox knows

That would be something........

Kazan Maru, and Chojusan Maru both bear a striking reselblance to the small merchant and small passenger carrier in game already. They are basically merchants with loads of guns, a hydrophone, and perhaps a roll off DC rack.

This guy also did a set of "whale killer boats" which were impressed into IJN service as subchasers.

Shinshu maru (Army ministry, 8160grt) IJA Landing craft carrier
Completed in Nov 1933.
Bombed and abandoned on 3 Jan 45 off Takao. Finally sunk by USS Aspro (SS-309)

Yeah, some would be cool, but I was thinking in terms of bang for the buck, so to speak. The Aux Gunboats are cool because they are dangerous, and somewhat common. They also are so similar to a couple stock ships as to make them possibly easier to do.

In terms of pure targets, the small stuff would be more important, 1000 tons and less.

Then some Kaibokans.

As a sidenote.. A few weeks ago, when I was messing with the 3D models and nodes etc, I managed to add extra Depth Charge Launchers (K-Guns) to the Asashio Class DD (incidentally a single Y-Gun fires two charges in the same direction so you need two Y-guns each facing the opposite way to get a "good spread").

Anyway, I then tried to take the Taihosan class small freighter and make a Q-ship. No Idea where it all when wrong, but it did. I added sensors from DD's etc up gunned it a bit and tried to add DC throwers on the aft decking. I since gave up, but I still think it would be a worthwhile idea for someone who is better at these things. I think the problem was using a merchant as a warship, I initially was setting the Type to a corvette.. but who knows what the problem was..

But from what I've read it was quite common for subs to encounter merchants that would hurl a few charges over the side. Not real Q-ships, they came later in the war I think.

http://www3.plala.or.jp/takihome/karo.html

A IJA subchaser. Th model shown has propellers (aircraft), but they were also made with standard propulsion.

Seems like a substitute might be an Elco with DCs added and the TTs removed.

Also desperately needed...the most numerous Japanese escort type, the ASW trawler

Actually, I think those are "whale killer" boats.

Anyone know why the PCTrawler (armed trawler) has DC racks, but they don't work?

Strikes me that that ship would do well to be turned into a japanese armed trawler...

The DC racks are in the eqp file, but they don't show up. The rear gun (raised platform) is also missing.

It should be easy to fix, right?

If I could get the DC rack to work (I srewed with it til 1am last night) we'd have an excellent stand-in for jap XAMs and XPCs. I guess if I get it to work, we could clone it, and add japanese weapons and sailors if it's worthwhile to do so.

Maybe retexture it as more wooden looking...

Out of curiosity did the DC thrower actually show up?

Looks like that ship based on the eqp files which are wrong, frankly) has main gun (M0_ objects), AA (A0_ objects), and lights (L0_ objects). No DCs.

I tried to get the "Armed Trawler" in game---which is supposed to have DCs according to the eqp file---to actually have DCs. No dice. Looks like to get one the ship needs a "W0_ node in the dat.

Wonder if another node can be swited in type (like pick a spot where crew is, or a deck gun, etc) and change it?
