Thanks HW for the info. Haven't seen that yet, but then again I dive deep so it doesn't get damaged. When I come up to load from external I make sure there's no enemy around. And too, I'm only using the IXB. Haven't gotten to date IXD2 is available yet.

Steed don't let those enemy destoyers ram or DC you. Run Forrest, run.

Can someone point to me what exactly turm (tower) is?. Or this also happens in others towers too?

Odd.
I know for a fact the IX3 is the troublesome one, tomorrow I will run a couple of careers with the others and make a note of the results.
Hello Steed,
did you got the results? IŽam also interessted in finding a solution because of having the same problems.

No not yet. All I can say the tests are on going, results so far damaged IX3 Turm looks good but trying to get it destroyed without killing me is another matter, I have been trying out ramming a ship with the turm sticking out the water a bit.

These tests are giving me a headache but I shall continual and try and get the result.

I've been having the exact same problem. It happens when the watch tower itself takes damage, not the entire conning tower. When you pull up your damage control screen and click on the conning tower, even minor damage to the watch tower will trigger the crew to mass suicide on the tower. It'll wipe out everyone except those manning the helm. If you get a repair team to fix the problem, it'll kill officers instantly and all crew members in the slots beyond the first one to the far left. Sometimes the conning tower won't show any damage on the diagram but if you click on it, there will be a list of damage showing in the report. It happens most often for me with the Type IXD42 and the IX/3 conning tower in career mode from 1943 and on. Probably the easiest way to trigger it is to get strafed by machine gun fire from a PT boat or a plane.

Seems to be a problem that was not solved in SH4 either, so I read.

Try telling the Allies to be helpful with my tests. :rotfl:

The only thing so far is when the IX3 Turm is damaged all is OK, as you all know I am trying to get it destroyed without me going splat.

PS: Welcome on board.
PPS: The mod I am trying is on behalf of a fellow captain here. Who created it.

So that's what keeps killing me when I surface in my IXC/40 in 1944 with damage! After taking a beating for hours, I finally get away and surface to make repairs. Next thing I know is "oh my God" and everyone dies!

Strange as this bug is only known to be with the IXD2 boat. :hmm:

Does anybody know, whether this also takes place with a IXB and IX/3 tower?
By the way: I put an VIIC/3 tower on my IXD2 and got no problems like this.

Thanks for the welcome wagon. I've been lurking in the depths for quite some time and finally decided to surface.
Just an update to this problem, I've been able to get the same "death everywhere" problem to kick up with the IXB/IX3 combination. I went deep into the game files and changed the availabilty dates of the upgrades so I was able to get a fully equipped type IX in early '40. Then it was off to play chicken with destroyers. I get their attention and then charge at them at flank speed, surfaced, and deck gun blazing. (NOT recommended if you plan on having a long career ) After multiple tries, the destroyer finally lands the right hit. Boom! "Watchtower is damaged, sir!" is filling up my message box as fast as it can be printed out on the screen. Check the damage diagram, click on the conning tower, and there it is, minor damage to the watchtower. (by this time, at least half of the crew has already gone up to suicide) For the sake of testing, I gave the conning tower 8000 hit points and gave the crewmen an equally ridiculous amount of hitpoints. Didn't make a difference, when the destroyer lands the right shot, it's all over.
I'm leaning more towards the problem lying with the IX3 tower, not which sub type it's on. This was done with a fresh install of SHIII, patched, and GWX 1.03 with latest patches. So, I was able to achieve the same result, but still haven't found a fix or workaround aside from not using the IX3 tower.

Well that certainly must look weird. A VII conning tower on a type IX...

Damn. Happened to me. I'm in 10th Flotilla, its late '43, and Im about to go to Penang. The only mod I run is GWX (1.03). I'm in a IX/D2, with a IX/3 watchtower. The watchtower took damage as I was playing chicken with a Hunt 2. It seems to me, that the problem is that the game is not recognizing the damge to the watchtower. It keeps repeating the message over and over, so when u surface, it kills the crew that automatically go topside, and when they die, and are automatically sent to one of the compartments, four more lemmings run up to be killed, etc., etc., etc. Any ideas, besides not ever getting my watchtower damgeed. By the way its not the flak section. that was damaged, and did nto trigger the bug.

If your u-boat has taken damage during a patrol this will happen every time you load up a saved game. In my experience its nothing to worry about. The other bug mentioned in this thread is though. Has any progress been made on a possible solution or is it something that cannot be cured without an official patch from Ubi?
