Hello guys. I am contemplating whether or not to purchase Silent Hunter 4, and pretty much the only thing that is holding me back is whether or not my PC will handle it alright with atleast some decent graphics.
I am running: Intel P4 3.0GHz w/ Hyper Threading. 1GB of DDR Dual Channel RAM 200GB SATA HD @7200RPM Sapphire ATI Radeon x850XT (double-wide cooler) Windows XP Media Center Edition Do I have a chance? ![]() |

Yep, it should most definitely run. Another gig of RAM would improve performance a bit, but not by THAT much, really. |

IMHO SH-4 is a Ram and Video card hungry game.
Turn off anti virus and any other background programs and game will run with better fps. Good Luck and Good Hunting ![]() |

Oh, also - in my observation your performance in SHIV should be pretty much equal to performance in SHIII with newer mods (that have 16km visibility), provided your video card and drivers are properly updated. Certainly the case for me, in part because SHIV takes some advantage of multi-threaded processors which SHIII doesn't, so any added load will be negated by that for your machine.
Also, if your video card is struggling a bit, you can always turn down some of the detail. I can safely say you'll need to turn off volumetric fog on yours (it eats away FPS quite a bit), but you will probably be able to dial up the rest of it without losing much performance. The RAM footprint seems to be just over 1GB, but for the most part you'll be okay with what you have. It might be a bit slower in high time compression, and generally an extra gig would be a good idea, but like I said before - you'll be okay without it. |
