You are absolutely right.Moreover,if you saved game submerged at,let's say,over 200 meters,your U-Boat will be destroyed itself within seconds after loading the save,as the depth will increase extremely fast.

I only get the shattered guages on save reloads (surfaced or submerged) if I have sustained damage prior to the save. For some reason all the damage you have sustained is loaded in at the beginning of saved game hence the noise and shattering of glass. In my experience this has had no additional effect on my hull integrity. Can't comment on saves below 200 metres as I have never done it, but I have heard of a weather mod having an effect on reloading saves that result in your boat plummeting to the bottom. I use the save function frequently and whilst I try and avoid saving while submerged, I have done it on many occassions without any bad side effects.
