There seems to be a problem with how large the file is. I think its too big to send over outlook. Anybody here know if this is right or wrong and whats the biggest file you can send?

I'll send you an email with a small text attachment. If it works, it is probably the filesize that is the problem

Most ISPs limit the size of files you can transfer in mail IIRC.

I'm going to compress it. Which compressing tool makes the file the smallest?
I tryed WINRAR. Compressed file from 147 to 100 MB but still too big to send.

Spdklls is right. I'm not sure what the difference is going to be. If he's downloading at 56K, that's all he's gonna get whether it's from your mail sever or the website.
Also, I don't think any mail service will let you attach something that big. You could try MSN messenger transfer instead? If it's a problem of the source website uploading too slow to him, I could put it on my server; but I think his 56K is going to bottleneck him no matter where he gets it from. Time to enter 2007 and dump that slowband.

Ahoy!
When I downloaded files on dialup, I used a program called GetRight. It allows segmented downloading. Download and setup GetRight, then use GetRight to download the patch. If the transfer is interrupted, no problem, as it will resume downloading where it left off. Sorry, but big files take a long time on dialup, that is just the way it is. Good luck! Capt. BC |

Egads. Yeah, no matter which way you look at it, downloading that large of a file is going to be a pain on dial-up. Your method won't make it faster... as long as you're downloading it, it's gotta go through the dial-up.
It's kinda like sucking a really thick milkshake through a tiny straw (kinda like the one's normally sticking out of a can of WD-40). Stir it all you want, it's still gonna suck hard. I'd say find a friend that has broadband, and download it there. Or private message some helpful member of the board (I'll volunteer myself) with your snail mail address... have them download the patch, burn it to a CD for you, and send it via snail mail. As slow as that may sound, it'll still be faster than dial-up. |

I use dialup. The 1.2 patch was about 8.5 hours I think. But like the man said above, GetRight makes it much much easier to live with. Doing a DL in 4 or 5 chunks makes a huge difference. Just be warned though, not every server is GetRight friendly.

Or you can try Free Download Manager. It will support resuming if your connection breaks, and can also split up your downloads, and works with Firefox and Internet Explorer. Its available in a couple dozen languages or so. And its completely free.

What the hell are you all talking about? Downloading from email will take as much time as downloading from the web as someone already said here... Actually it'll take even more time because the file would have to be reencoded for the mail attachment format... Duh... :rotfl:
