Subsim's Flank Speed 1.3 patch contest

Ok, we see the patch post slowing down, men are losing heart, some are panicking and wearing ladies shoes and we cannot have that. Here's the deal: I really want to see SH4 patched up to 1.3. I've been here before and I know it takes a prolonged effort to get these monolithic game companies to get moving. It's not "begging", it's more like getting the wife to... well, hell, the important thing is getting it, right?
UPDATE 5/24: Now that we have been told Ubi will begin on patch 1.3, the contest shifts to informing other gamers and computer enthusiasts about Silent Hunter 4.

Let's gin up some viral marketing with a fizzing twist: You guys post in other forums, post comments in blogs, newsgroups, and submit news items in other websites. For the next 10 days, if you post a message in another forum, blog, newsgroup, or submit a news item to a website and post the link here, you will be entered in the Subsim Flank Speed 1.3 patch contest. Make the post include this link: Official SH4 patch 1.3 Update at Subsim.com and describe the game and our efforts support Ubisoft's update. Then post your claim here with a link to that forum, blog or news item.

Post in as many forums as you like, that's how we will crown the winner. Forums posts are worth 1 point each, news items are worth 2 points each. At the end of 10 days, the guy who has the most scalps will win:

Sonlaysts' Naval Combat Pack
So you can explore three of the greatest subsims ever while waiting for Ubi to patch up SH4.

Master and Commander DVD

Steel Boat, Iron Hearts:
A U-boat Crewman’s Life Aboard U-505

Subsim "Rigged for Dive!" Battle Mug
Good to 1200 feet

A book, a set of games, a film, and a glorious mug to sip coffee while you do all three. A summer worth of entertainment. But the best reason to take part in this contest: it will be wild and funny and part of Subsim lore, like the Drebbel trial, Wolfpack League, Mystery Subsim Contest, and many other fun things this community has done. Make your name known, brotha.

So, get started, let's see what you've got.

Good hunting!
Neal

Small print: DVD is US region, will work in most PCs; book is in English, and the mug can be held in either hand. Contest must have at least 6 participants. Winner will be the person with a link in the most blogs/ forums/newsgroups. Said link in each forum/blog/newsgroup must survive for 10 days, so if the forum owner removes it, it does not count. Contest closes May 30. Winner will be judged and announced June 3. Consolation prizes may be awarded to wittiest and best written posts in other forums.

Hahah, good on ya

I especially like how you worded your appeal:
Quote:
Even if you don't really play, there is more too it. These big companies continue to put out games that are buggy, then decide to just drop them, I am sure you have all had it happen to you at one point with a game you really enjoyed or COULD have enjoyed.
I want to encourage good writing like this.

Hey Neal,

Uh... it's "consolation prize" not "consultation prize". I wouldn't want you to look illiterate on your own boards. :p

A little solidarity from someone who plays a REAL sub-(er, naval combat)sim. :p

Hey guys,

As many of you probably already know, UBI has joined the long list of companies that released an incomplete product, knowing that they could sell enough copies before all the deficiencies were discovered. Silent Hunter IV was riddled with serious issues from it's beginning, and though the 1.2 patch has improved things significantly, there are still a number of serious issues that need to be addressed before people will have received the product they thought they were paying for. And by the looks of things right now, 1.2 may very well be where SHIV ends.

Neal Stevens of Subsim.com is calling upon the sub simulation community to band together to try to motivate UBI to do the right thing. For those of you who havent had every last bit of optimism squeezed out of you, head over to Subsim Silent Hunter 4 Patch 1.3 Campaign to show your support. (And for the cynics, yes, we all know it's an uphill battle, so there's no need to remind us)

Thanks!
