They just dont make much good games anyore. If you look at Flightsim X, from MS for crying out loud, it was a big dissapointment. Not a machine, even in the upcomming year could play it fluidly. They have patched it now, under much pressure of the
communities.

Just mention a few good games of the last year and a half ? there arent much around. 5 years or more a go they were much more polished.
Its imho now more and more quick bucks, and move on. With so many customers world wide, they will sell whatever the quality is.
If you sell a niche product, then its even easier: no alternative.

The only solution would be to make a sim ourselfs.. and that must be possible. Someone out there is even making his own flightsim, and it does actually looks quiete good. And flightsims are much more demanding to program. http://blogs.labtech.epitech.net/blo...tegory/55.aspx

There is enough knowledge in the community, so who does the teamup?

We have had a few world war 2 sub sims now . What about ww1? I am not sure if there is one out right now. But it would be pretty cool to be the germans in ww1 in a sub.

If ubi did SH5 I would be certain many people will think twice about buying it after the spectra of SH4. If some one else did it well maybe. :hmm:

Has the series come to an end I don't know but I hope not.

I don't think it's finished. Maybe Ubi won't do another one, but it's a franchise with a well-known name and it has a significant dedicated customer base.

Somebody, sooner or later, will pick it up for another version

Sorry to say,but if Ubi decided not to do another one then I don't believe that anyone will. Sub sims are a niche market and quite frankly, they aren't very big money makers...and that's what companies are looking for these days...big money makers. They would look at Ubi dropping the franchise as a reason NOT to pick it up themselves.

They have to compete with console games which they didn't have to do before. Even MMOs such as AOC are going to be releasing console versions which to me is a bad sign. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if PC games themselves became a niche market in 5-10 years.

The place I buy my games from has like 50 racks of console games...and one rack of PC games...that tells me alot about the state of pc gaming these days.

Yeah! I approve of that! WW1 would be cool. Also think the cold war could be an option..

Actually, mate, there is one out! http://www.amazon.de/1914-Shells-Sch.../dp/389874566X
Drebbel has a quite interesting thread about it here:

i have to say, i'd love a cold war/modern sub sim with sh4 graphics and compartments! it doesn't need to have the same complexity as Dangerous Waters but slightly more sophisticated systems than SH3 and 4.

I would like to play a WWI sim, too. Dunno how this would go over with the casual gamer, though....

as long as the sub interior and environment looked great - i would be more than willing to take graphics downgrades in other areas of the game if i had the level of immersion and the interactive capacity that all the suggestions here had.

You know what I've got a better idea. Why not have a "combo sim"? This sim would be able to run on older video cards and the player could pick if they wanted to command a sub or ship in the RN,USN,IJN,Kreigsmarine, and the Russian Navy and the players career could go from WW1-WW2, and end after the cold war or go the the present, and the player can switch from ship to sub and vice versa, as well as have the correct rank starting in basic training up to the highest rank in that countrys navy. And all previous ideas that I stated at the begining of this post.
